YORK, Pa. (WHTM) – Police say they’ve arrested a man who wore women’s clothing when he robbed banks in York County.
Eric S. Reaves, 46, of York, was wearing a long dress and brown wig when he tried to rob the Americhoice Federal Credit Union on Indian Rock Dam Road, but he couldn’t get into the lobby Wednesday morning because bank workers locked a second set of doors, York Area Regional police said in charging documents.
He fled the bank but was captured about 100 yards away.
Reaves is charged with three counts of robbery. Police believe he robbed the Northwest Savings Bank at 2220 South Queen Street on Oct. 28 and the York Traditions Bank at 235 St. Charles Way on July 16.
His bail at York County Prison was set at $750,000.
According to the complaint, police had been tracking Reaves since last week because his state parole officer believed he recognized Reaves in surveillance photos from the two robberies in York Township and a third at an M&T Bank in Springettsbury Township on July 27.
The parole officer told police that Reaves had a history of using disguises to rob banks. He added that Reaves was out on parole at the time of the Oct. 28 robbery but was returned to prison until June because of a DUI arrest.
Police said Reaves’s landlord told them Reaves owed nearly $2,000 in rent and had previously paid him in cash.
Officers were following him Monday when Reeves drove up to the Americhoice Federal Credit Union and exited his SUV wearing an orange and brown wig, similar to one worn during the robbery in Springettsbury Township. He was within 20 feet of the bank doors when he turned around and drove away on Interstate 83, the complaint states.
Police said they were still following him Wednesday, and when Reaves approached the bank wearing a dress and brown wig, officers phoned the tellers and told them to lock the doors.
He was not immediately charged in the Springettsbury Township robbery.
