Congrats to the J.J. Pearce Mighty Mustang Band, on being our Best Band in the Land this week!

If you wanna nominate YOUR favorite High School Band, go to 995thewolf.com and click on the “Best Band” pic to get started.

I asked Director Icossipentarhos to share some of the highlights of the Mighty Mustang Band….

he provided us with some great info….

“We’re comprised of 230 students in grades 9-12, led by Senior Drum Majors Lindsay Harmon, Charles Broad, Hope Bruening, and Junior Drum Major Liz Spence.  The band is under the direction of Dimitrios Icossipentarhos, Joshua Blankenship, Kyle Johnson, Brent Smith, Eric Gibbons, and Mike Hernandez.

The band has been extremely successful competitively. Both the Wind Symphony and the Wind Ensemble have won every major festival in Texas, and the Wind Ensemble has twice been selected the Outstanding Wind Ensemble at the Texas State Wind Ensemble Competition in Austin. The band has also represented the Texas Music Educators Association as the Class AAAAA Honor Band in 1985 and the Class AAAA Honor Band in 2002. The Pearce High School Band is one of only a few high school bands in the United States to have twice received the Sudler Flag of Honor from the John Philip Sousa Foundation. The Mighty Mustang Band has also advanced to the State Marching Contest twice over the past few years.

The Pearce Band performs frequent concerts in many different venues. Over the past twenty years, all three Pearce concert bands have performed on five separate occasions in New York’s Carnegie Hall. The band has twice been invited to perform at the Midwest Invitational Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. The band also performs an annual concert here in the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center, the result of an anonymous donation from the parents of band students. This annual concert has allowed the students to perform in an environment conducive to sensitive music-making and created many opportunities for musical experiences.

The Mighty Mustang Band’s 2016 fall production is entitled ‘Le Cirque’, and will be performing at the Wylie Marching Invitational this Saturday.  The show consists of music from Dance of the Jesters (Tchaikovsky), Send in the Clowns (Sondheim), and the Finale from Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium (Desplat & Zigman).  It’s been an exciting ride so far this season!

We are truly grateful to all the students, parents, staff, and administration at J.J. Pearce High School and across Richardson ISD for their constant support and dedication to the band program.

Thanks for all you do, band members, directors, staff, boosters, volunteers, and the community of Richardson for supporting the marching bands!
