Frank Micelotta/FOXAndy Grammer’s actually been making records since 2009, but this Sunday, one of the two Teen Choice Awards he’s nominated for is Choice Music Breakout Artist. Then again, it’s only been in the past few months that he’s scored the biggest hit of his career with “Honey, I’m Good,” and these are his first award nominations that reflect that. Andy says he’s thrilled, especially because teens are the ones deciding who wins.

“It’s a really incredible moment to have everybody really paying attention right now. It is really sweet,” he told reporters in Nashville this week. “And it is cool to know it’s coming from the teenagers, especially with this message of this song.”

While Andy’s been handling his new-found fame pretty well, he says what amuses him about the whole thing is that he doesn’t really feel “famous.” “I’s such a funny thing ‘cause you’re like the same person,” he told reporters. “These things, these award shows and fame and all that is so transitory from city to city. I’ll go somewhere like Boston, where I do really well, and if I walk down the street it’s like, ‘Andy Grammer, what’s up? Oh my God!'”

He adds “And then the next night you’re in a different city and you couldn’t get me arrested!”

“I’m definitely loving it. I’m trying to like not let it go too much to the head,” Andy continues. “One of my dad’s best [pieces of] advice to me when I was going into high school…I’m, like, about to get dropped off and he goes, ‘All the cool kids continually change, so be nice to everybody.’ I’m like, ‘Got it, ok.’ And I’ve really like applied that to the music industry as well.”

“But to deny that it feels really great to be getting some recognition right now, I’d be lying,” he laughs. “It’s great; it’s awesome.” Andy’s also up for Choice Music Star: Male at Sunday night’s awards, which air on Fox.

WALK THE MOON, another band who’s been around for a while but has scored their first massive hit in the past few months, has also received a nomination: their single “Shut Up and Dance” is up for Choice Party Song. Lead singer Nick Petricca tells ABC Radio that it really means a lot to him that the awards are based on votes from actual teens, and not guys in suits.

“That is maybe the highest honor for me. I think it’s amazing,” he says. ” Music has such an amazing impact and it’s so important to us and it was so important to me growing up, so it’s an honor.”

Ludacris hosts the Teen Choice Awards Sunday night at 8 p.m. ET live/PT tape-delayed on Fox. He tells ABC Radio about why he’s excited about hosting this particular awards show.

“I just love the energy of teens all by themselves….Teenagers don’t have any responsibility — they don’t have to pay no damn bills, you know, they don’t have stuff to worry about,” he explains. “So I think that’s part of the element that I’m most excited about, is having some of that energy, because wouldn’t it be so great just to not have any damn responsibilities at all?”
