If you’ve ever dreamed of waking up looking red carpet ready – you might want to consider permanent make-up.

A form of cosmetic tattooing – in which hypo-allergenic pigments are introduced into the top surface of the skin – the technique imitates perfectly applied make-up.

Eyebrows, lashes, lip color and skin imperfections can be improved but, unlike traditional tattoos, the pigment gradually fades over time.

We caught up with the UK’s leading permanent make-up artist Heidi Worman to discover more about creating make-up that won’t budge.

“It’s a big step choosing to have cosmetic make-up applied,” explained Heidi, who has created permanent make-up for a whole host of famous faces.

“If carried out correctly, it looks fantastic and it can save you so much time. It’s waterproof and smudge proof so you don’t have to worry about rain, going to the gym or showering.”

Eyebrows are Heidi’s most requested technique and she’s a big fan of the results she has achieved.

“Everyone knows that eyebrows can really frame a face but if your natural eyebrow hair isn’t full enough, no amount of shaping or threading can achieve real definition.

“Creating a natural brow effect is all about the pressure, color selection and skill.

“I like light work, so you can add to it with your own make-up, on a night out,” she adds.

But while many of us want symmetrical eyebrows, a nice eyeliner or some kind of lip enhancement, Heidi says it’s not a good idea to rush in.

“Do your research,” she advised. “Many are tricked by, say, a prestigious London location, with marble steps and a beautiful leather sofa in the waiting room, but will this guarantee the best work?”

Heidi recommends asking potential practitioners whether they are a member or connected to a regulatory body.

“I’m on the BUPA list which means my work and credentials have been verified by a number of cosmetic surgeons, and they won’t just put their name to anyone as it’s their reputation too,” she adds.
