Marc Jacobs and Alexander Wang will battle it out at the CFDA Fashion Awards.
The nominations for the 2014 prizes were announced at an event hosted at the Bowery Hotel in New York City by Nadja Swarovski and CFDA President Diane von Furstenberg yesterday.
One of the most anticipated categories is best womenswear, which will see either Jacobs, Wang or Joseph Altuzarra for Altuzarra coming out on top.
The menswear version of the prize is also hotly anticipated, with Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow for Public School, Marcus Wainwright and David Neville for Rag & Bone and Thom Browne all nominated.
It was a good night for Wang, who also picked up a nod in the best accessories category. Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen for The Row were also mentioned there, as was Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCullough for Proenza Schouler.
Tom Ford will receive the prestigious Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award, with Raf Simons of Christian Dior getting the International Award.
Each year Swarovski honors emerging talent and 2014 is no different. Either Shane Gabier and Christopher Peters for Creatures of the Wind, Rosie Assoulin or Wes Gordon will pick up the womenswear prize, with the menswear one going to one of Tim Coppens, Todd Snyder or Shayne Oliver for Hood by Air.
Balance Diversity founder Bethann Hardison will receive The Founder’s Award in Honor of Eleanor Lambert. She has been working tirelessly to promote diversity on the runway over the last few years and was told of the honor during an event involving Naomi Campbell, who has also worked with her, and Diane yesterday.
“When [Diane] said it I knew she wasn’t joking, but I couldn’t believe it. For her to come in and tell me the good news – I looked right at Naomi and ran into her arms and started crying,” Bethann told Fashionista.com. “I just need to know what day to show up!”
The 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards will be held on June 2 at Alice Tully Hall in New York, with John Waters hosting.
