“Chi va piano, va sano e va lontano”: According to an Italian proverb, “If you have an easy-going and relaxed approach to life, you’ll live more healthily and longer”. And this is exactly the attitude which is lived every day in our Vapianos—by both our guests and our employees, the Vapianisti. It has been this way since the 22nd of October, 2002, when the first Vapiano in Hamburg, Germany, opened its doors at the “Hohen Bleichen”. Two years later, the founders decided to set Vapiano on a world tour as a franchise concept. Today there are already over 150 Vapianos in 29 countries on 5 continents, and many more international openings planned for the future.
In cities around the world, people who meet in our relaxed setting share one important quality: the love of enjoying life and sharing spontaneous and genuine companionship.
The long oak tables in the Vapianos are an open invitation to communication—with friends, family, or simply with other guests. Conversation comes easy in good company where all are talking, laughing, and of course, having a wonderful dining experience.
Pasta, pizzas, antipasti and salads are ordered directly from the chefs at the individual stations in the middle of the Vapiano. The chefs prepare all of the dishes to order in front of the guests. Everyone can have his meal prepared to his own personal preference. Favorite dishes can be created, and then individually refined. The herb garden and the fresh herbs on the tables are not just for decoration, but to offer the special taste that every dish deserves.
The guests will see how the pasta and dolci are made fresh each day in the glassed-in manifattura in the middle of each Vapiano. Our pizza dough, our sauces and dressings, and our pesto are all prepared in-house and guaranteed to be made of the finest ingredients. Every Vapiano all around the world takes care of producing its own food, for Vapiano does not have a central production facility.
Those guests who want to enjoy an after-dinner coffee or drink can move from their table to the bar or the comfortable lounge. Thanks to the smart-card payment system, they just pay for their consumption at the desk when they are ready to leave the restaurant.

OUR VAPIANO DESIGN
Uncomplicated, communicative, lively, eventful
Vapiano is the love of eating, of freshness, of manifattura, of communication, and of enjoying being together. This love is expressed in Vapiano’s interior design: eating together, communicating with each other, all in a cosmopolitan atmosphere.
One of the centerpieces and the Mediterranean symbol of each Vapiano is the 100-year-old olive tree which has its own special place in the dining room. The large and lavish panels over the cooking stations are another focal point at Vapiano. They display entertaining and informative content on the topics of Vapiano food, cooking, enjoying life and lifestyle, as well as references to that particular Vapiano city.
THE SENSE OF SPACE
Transparency, brightness and lightless define the space in each Vapiano. Honesty determines the high-quality materials: wood, marble, leather and light.
The bright colors give Vapiano a carefree ease, and invite you to linger. The furniture throughout the dining room also captures this sentiment. The lighter, more sophisticated furniture fosters an enjoyable and communicative sense of space.
The lighting also changes mood along with the time of day. Direct and indirect light from various sources engender a very special atmosphere.
COMMUNICATION
Large tables for up to eight people emphasize the communicative aspect of the Vapiano concept and the idea of shared enjoyment. Family and friends, and strangers can enjoy an easygoing time together.
The open show kitchen is the center of communication between guests and the Vapianisti. Fine materials such as Fior di Pesco marble and a bar top of brushed oak are an expression of high quality. Technical elements, which are relevant for the guests, embedded in the stations. The choice of meals is simple and uncomplicated for the guests. There are both analog and digital media to inform the guest without disturbing the space. This encourages and simplifies the interaction between the guest and the Vapianist, leaving plenty of room for easy and relaxed communication during the cooking process.
FRESHNESS
Fresh herbs which are found throughout the Vapiano, the “Green Wall” of living plants, and the view into the glassed-in pasta manifattura in the middle of the dining room, where Vapiano‘s fresh pasta is produced daily, visualize the claim of freshness of the ingredients and their direct preparation
A BREAK FROM THE DAILY ROUTINE
Each Vapiano has a comfortable lounge where guests can relax and spend enjoyable time together. The seating in the lounge area is made up of sofas, chairs and stools which are upholstered in two shades of red. Various decorative pillows offer matching color accents.
The Vapiano Terrace is one of the most popular and frequented areas in the summer. Spacious and bright outdoor ash wood furniture with cushions and pillows invite the guests to linger.
The Interior Design for the first Vapiano was created in 2002 by the internationally renowned Milanese architect Matteo Thun, and disseminated throughout the world from the Vapiano Hamburg Hohe Bleichen. Matteo Thun explains “Vapiano is love of eating, of freshness, of preparation; this is what we wanted to reflect with our restaurant design 10 years ago”. Ten years later, Matteo Thun went back to his creative work to present the further evolution of his design concept in the Vienna Vapiano at the West Railway Station in November 2011. This “Refreshment of the Interior” is an evolutionary step forward with the original, uncomplicated and clean design idea.
