Dubai, United Arab Emirates – The 3rd Annual Middle East Smart Landscape Summit 2015, held under the patronage of the Dubai Municipality, commenced today at Sofitel The Palm Resort and Spa, Dubai, UAE, with an exciting series of keynote speeches, panel discussions, case studies and networking sessions. The summit is produced by global conference organizers, Expotrade.

The summit was inaugurated by Eng. Salah Amiri, Asst. Director General for Environmental & Public Health Services Sector, Dubai Municipality, who also delivered a special address on behalf of the Dubai Municipality.

Dignitaries at the summit included H.E. Jennes De Mol, Ambassador, Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and H.E. Milos Perisic, Charge D’Affaires, Serbian Embassy.

Attended by over 400 senior level landscape architects, government authorities, urban planners, developers, environmental specialists and contractors from across the GCC, the two-day summit features sessions on developments in sustainable landscaping in the region, ranging from greening initiatives, landscape design, architecture and construction, to artificial turf, irrigation, urban green spaces and ecological restoration. The agenda features over 20 sessions, including speeches, case studies and panel discussions.

The summit has increasingly grown in stature over the last three years, with the third edition featuring increased partnerships with major companies such as Falconcity of Wonders, Convic, SLA, Sites International, Zeoplant, Grassco & Aratex, TigerTurf in association with Flora Engineering Services, Gulf Landscape and Irrigation Systems, Vision Project Services, Cape Reed, Gulf Perlite LLC, WT Burden Middle East, Global Light & Power LLC and many more. The exhibitor lounge featuring over 30 companies showcased the most innovative solutions and the latest technology in sustainable landscaping from around the world, including Saudi Arabia, China, UK, Lebanon, USA, Egypt, Australia, Netherlands, Germany, France, Denmark, Qatar, Oman, South Africa, Spain, Jordan and Switzerland.

Presentations on Day 1 of the summit focused on implementing sustainability across Dubai parks; landscaping from a private developer’s perspective; design with nature; impact of urban spaces on public health; ecological restoration; sustainable landscape architecture; use of aerial drones for landscape architecture; artificial turf; irrigation solutions; adversity in landscape construction in UAE; living systems in Singapore; systems for productive and edible landscapes. The panel discussion for the day discussed artificial grass and its use in sports and recreational facilities in the Middle East.

Day 2 will feature sessions on urban greenspaces and biodiversity; benefits of using native plants; using seawater for landscape projects and agriculture; use of smart technology in public spaces. The panel discussion for Day 2 will revolve round creative greening of open spaces. Also on the agenda is a case study discussion on integrated open space planning with the case of Madinat Al Nakheel, Iraq, Basra in focus.
