Parents will be delighted to hear of a brand new and exciting initiative that is being launched – for the first time in South Africa – at this year Durban Good Food & Wine Show, taking place at the Durban Exhibition Centre from Friday, October 28, to Sunday, October 30.

Kids Corner – an area especially set aside for children from the ages of three to 12-years old – will be run by the Kids Food Studio, an initiative, launched by Studio H, that will roll out nationwide from next year. Kids Food Studio is an interactive and fun learning experience that will allow children to take part in the journey that food takes from the farm to the family.

The Kids Corner programme at the Durban show will run for 2 x 2-hour sessions daily, from 11am to 1pm and again from 3pm to 5pm, giving parents some respite and time to browse the rest of the show at leisure.

An experienced team will take the kids through the various activities so parents can leave their offspring and collect them after they’ve completed one of the sessions. And the best news? No additional cost is involved.

Each of the five areas within the Kids Corner will consist of an interactive experience and consist of flat-packed cardboard stations and tools, downloadable interactive puzzles, games and fact sheets.

The five stations are:

– Discover: The Rainbow

– Learn: The Farm

– Grow: The Garden

– Taste: The Market

– Share: Photo Booth

Says Fiera Milano’s Maria Chieppa: “We have an exciting children’s area and have developed a much needed interactive family programme where kids and their parents can engage in a whole host of really fun activities. Participants will not only get their hands dirty but also have a great opportunity to learn about food.”

Adds Studio H spokesperson Hannerie Visser: “It is important for children to know where our food comes from in order to make the right choices for our wellbeing and the planet. Food education at a young age helps us to have a good and balanced relationship with food and it enables kids to make the right, sustainable and ethical food choices. The Kids Corner will be a great start on that journey.”

Entry to the Good Food & Wine Show is free to kids under 12.
