SAMW is a biannual event showcasing means fashion from Africa’s best and leading designers, which will take place from Wednesday to Saturday, July 6 to 9, at the Cape Town Stadium. This is the fourth installment of South African Menswear Week and will reveal the spring/summer collections, which provide a platform for African talent to build brands and labels and increase exposure, which in turn supports sales and assists in expanding awareness and demand for local designs.

More than 55 designers will be presented to media, buyers and industry over four days of shows. The July SS16/17 will showcase some of the most popular designers such as:

Magents

Inspired by Nelson Mandela’s adventurous look and the willingness to break from tradition, this trio combines a youthful, urban, street and sophisticated look that embraces the many cultures of South Africa. Magents now has a range of well constructed twill jackets, lightweight jackets, chinos, denim chinos, denim jeans and hoodies made from high quality fabric. Despite their global expansion, they proudly retain their afro-vintage look.

Jenevieve Lyons

This designer makes reference to strong concepts and ideas to bring innovative garments with a sense of moulding and sculpting. Her brand speaks to the fashion conscious consumer with an eye for high quality apparel. Her recently launched MUTE is an extension to the ready-to-wear brand. MUTE is known for simplicity, whereby garments are intricately designed and constructed with the use of high quality textiles.

Chu Suwannapha

Chu is no stranger to the South African fashion industry. Known for his instantly recognizable prints and colourful dress code, this fashion designer has been the owner of “CHULAAP” for over 25 years. His keen eye for fashion has earned him global recognition and he recently won the award for Most Innovative Fashionista at the SA Style Awards. Chu will be showcasing at SA Menswear Week on Wednesday, July 6, at 8pm.

Rich Mnisi

Nominated as Africa Fashion International Young Designer of the year 2014, this designer showcases an inspirational brand, rich with modern culture and heritage. His keen interest in pop culture has resulted in the brand maintaining a contemporary outlook. He brings forth a world of artistic imagination in his structured, yet minimalistic designs.

The official after-party will be presented at The Bank, 54 Queen Victoria Street, Cape Town, from 10pm onwards on Saturday, July 9.
