KATY, TX – Relocation, relocation, relocation! It’s no news that the Greater Houston area’s been a magnet for new comers in search for good jobs recently. But little did you know that Katy has the hottest zip code in the nation.
“The 77494 zip code has been a hot area for years,” said Diane Zamora, a real estate agent at Meritage Homes, “but right now it is on fire.”
WelcomeMat Services, a marketing company targeting people who have recently changed their address, says that nearly 600 families moved into a home or apartment in the 77494 zip code during the month of May. The zip code includes the neighborhoods of Cinco Ranch and Grand Lakes.
“The number one reason why people move to this area is the Katy I.S.D. school system,” explained Anne Hodge, President and CEO of the Katy Area Chamber of Commerce. “We are ranked very high and it’s a quality of life issue for a number of our families.”
As expected, real estate is booming and prices are going up.
“Definitely a lot of oil and gas industry employees are moving from other parts of the country,” added Zamora, “and Houston’s always had a fantastic market.”
But there’s still plenty of room for all those willing to move.
“I think we still have room to take those families that are moving into the area,” said Hodge. “I think our challenges will be infrastructure issues.”
So the future is bright for lovely Katy, the new neighborhood star on the American map.
