HOUSTON, TX – Recent cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or “SNAP” are causing a rippling effect that is putting pressure on emergency food pantries like the Houston Food Bank.

To put things in perspective, as of November 2013, more than 776,000 people in the Houston Food Bank’s service area were receiving SNAP benefits.

The Houston Food Bank in the largest in the country, serving 600 partner food pantries across an 18-county service area.

Now, as congress gets back into session, there’s the hope from a lot Houstonians that Washington will provide the tools to keep that food bank flowing.
