HOUSTON, TX – In a football first for Houston Baptist University, the Huskies played their first home game in school history.

It’s something founding Father Stewart Morris thought he’d never see.

“It’s hard for me to keep the tears out of my eyes,” he said.

Students, faculty, and alumni packed the house for the game against Oklahoma Baptist.

The young team wasn’t looking too good going into the second half after a first-half shutout.

“When we first got out here, you know, being the first home game we were just kind of nervous, you know, a little jittery,” team member Terrell Brown said. “We wasn’t as focused as we should have been. At half time, coach just told us to get back on, play right. We just came out and just dominated.”

Defensive back Brown scored the first touchdown on an interception return, running back B.J. Kelly got two in the end zone, and after another interception touchdown return, HBU won the game 34 to 3, bringing their season to two and one.

“We will get better, we have to get better,” Coach Vic Shealy said. “But I’m grateful. A win’s a win, and we’ll take that any time.”
