SUGAR LAND, TX – When you walk outside it hits you — it’s HOT! Unless you live in Fort Bend County?
Most of its surrounding counties are under a heat advisory, while Fort Bend and a few counties to the north are in the clear.
Is it really that much cooler there?
The heat advisory is issued when the heat index, the feels like temperature, is between 105 and 110. The heat index is measured by factoring in actual temps with humidity, by gathering reading from regional weather stations in each county.
Jill Hasling with the Weather Research Center explained, “The closer you are to the coast, the more humid the air is going to be, so you’re going to have a heat index along the coast, and as you move inland, your heat index might be 100 to 105.”
So, no; you may not feel any cooler across the county line, but when setting advisories, they got to draw the line somewhere.
