WHAT TO BUY

When you give a gift membership to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, you not only support their work in making a better world, you invite someone special to experience the outdoors. Delight your loved ones with a field brimming with bluebonnets, a swing under the canopy of a Texas live oak, the wonder of monarchs dancing among the goldenrods. Members enjoy free visits all year long, and with a Family Level Membership, two adults and their children or grandchildren can enjoy the wonders of every season together. Make memories building a fort in the Texas Arboretum. Make it a day in the Family Garden, learning about wildflowers, witnessing wildlife and splashing in Dino Creek. Join in on exclusive “Wild Family” events with behind-the-scenes tours, cave crawls and more. What’s better than a year of flowers? Give the gift of membership to your family or anyone on your list.

HERE’S THE DEAL

Use the code “365Family” when you purchase gift memberships and the gift will come in a pretty box with extra passes, a limited edition magnet set and other goodies. Purchase by December 15 for delivery by December 24!

WHERE TO GIVE

The 18th annual Austin American-Statesman Season for Caring  is a partnership between the Statesman’s Editorial and Community Development departments to raise funds that will help families in need and the nonprofit agencies providing services to them. Cash and in-kind donations are used to buy gift cards for groceries, gas, clothing and household essentials; pay utilities; provide necessary medical and dental care; and fund higher education and technical training to allow these families to become self-sufficient. Since the campaign’s inception in 1999, in-kind donations have included everything from autos, home makeovers and new dentures to a state-of-the-art prosthesis and much more.

You can read the latest stories about Statesman Season for Caring families and then make a donation online.
