At least eighteen persons have been severely roasted while others sustained third degree burns in an inferno at the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, following an explosion at the premises of the Bank located at Calabar Road by the Millennium Park around 11:45am on Friday, Vanguard reports
The cause of the explosion remains unknown, however, it was gathered that many staff and visitors were trapped at the main edifice of the bank.
A source at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital, Calabar, said that scores of injured persons were seen being brought into the emergency unit of the hospital.

Boko Haram May Have Lied About Allegiance To ISIS
In 2015, when Boko Haram declared that it pledged allegiance to ISIS in Iraq and Syria, there were fears that the ferocious death cult in northeast Nigeria would take on an international dimension.
Notoriously famous for its brutal slaughter of thousands, the two world’s deadliest designated terrorist organizations were now officially linked.
There were rumors and concern of potential influx of foreign fighters to the countries surrounding Lake Chad and an escalation of a previously localized conflict.
Going by the happenings 12 months later, Boko Haram appears a considerably weaker force and apparently in disarray after the continuous, unflinching counter-offensive operations by the Nigerian military.
NNPC Resumes Operations As PENGASSAN, NUPENG Suspend Strike
The Group Executive Committees (GECs) of the two labor unions in the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC); the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) and the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) have on Thursday ended a day-old strike against the revamp of the beleaguered state oil firm after a marathon meeting with the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources and Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.
The strike, which was launched on Wednesday, came against the backdrop of spiraling oil prices due to a domestic shortage.

Gowon Accepts Abandoned Son, 48 Years After DNA Confirmation
The former military Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, retd has finally admitted to fathering a child with the late public relations expert, Princess Edith Ike Okongwu, courtesy a DNA test.
According to Vanguard Newspaper, Gowon, upon the report of a conclusive DNA test, acknowledged that he was the Father of Musa, who returned to Nigeria last year ending, after spending about 23 years in a United States prison.
In the 60s, Gowon and Okongwu were very close friends, however, there was a legal dispute concerning the paternity of Musa which dragged all the way to the Supreme Court in which Okongwu won.
The victory was, however, short-lived following the arrest of Musa by United States law enforcement officials in Dallas on the charge of importing heroin into that country.
The young Musa was sentenced to 27 years in prison and was only released last November on compassionate ground and good behaviour.

Fiscal Crunch: LASG Imposes ‘Tax’ On Housemaids, Artisans And All Domestic Workers
In a bid to widen its net on taxes and also generate more money, the Lagos State Government on Tuesday announced that it was mandatory for housemaids, gatemen, private guards and all domestic workers in the state to pay tax henceforth, citing the country’s gnawing fiscal crisis as the rationale for the decision.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), Mr Olufolarin Ogunsanwo, at a news conference in Alausa, Ikeja.
He said the new tax regime was in line with the current administration’s inclusion of every resident to the growth of the state.
Ogunsanwo said the agency had commenced the process of overhauling the informal sector with a view to ensuring voluntary compliance by all tax payers.
He therefore noted that the state governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, had approved the upgrading of the informal sector operation to a full directorate, which he said identified three categories of tax payers in the sector, and they include market men/women, artisans, micro, small and medium-scale enterprises and domestic staff.

DSS Allegedly Uncovers Plot To Abduct Nnamdi Kanu, Others From Court
The trial of a leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, commenced today, Monday amid concerns from the Department of State Service (DSS), that some pro-Biafra agitators, were allegedly planning on invading the court and forcefully releasing the detained leader.
The DSS made the allegation to a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, on a day the federal government was to open its case against Kanu who is facing a six-count treason charge alongside two other pro-Biafra supporters, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.
The Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), Mr. Mohammed Diri, told trial Justice John Tsoho that the DSS has already commenced investigation on the planned invasion.
The defendants, through their lawyer, Chief Chuks Muoma, SAN, applied to be discharged and acquitted of the charge against them, following the inability of the federal government to produce any of the eight witnesses scheduled to testify before the court.
