"We actually wrote ‘Dearly Departed’ on Halloween as a tongue-in-cheek, haunted house sex joke, and then we played it that night and people went bonkers," recalls Shakey Graves. “Esmé and I write so similarly it kind of freaked us out.”

Shakey Graves will perform at the LA Bluegrass Situation 2014 in Los Angeles this Saturday, October 11, and kick off a North American headline tour on October 15 at Terminal West in Atlanta. His October 26 show at New York City’s Bowery Ballroom is sold-out as are dates in such markets as Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle and Denver. Tickets just went on sale for a newly added November 10 show at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles. ”[And the War Came] jumps between mournful, largely solo ballads and heavier and more aggressive multi-instrument fare,” saidThe New York Times. Garden and Gun hailed itas “one of the year’s most astonishing records” while NPR Music’s Ann Powers praised his recent performance at the Americana Music Festival, noting, “Shakey Graves, playing a hollow-body electric guitar with just a drummer and his own suitcase percussion kit, pushed the edge of Jeff-Buckley-influenced art rock during his packed showcase.” Noisey named Shakey Graves as one of the highlights of Pickathon 2014, observing, “he’s a fierce one-man band with rolling tempos that ride the rails of a speeding and slowing four on the floor.”

Produced by Chris Boosahda and Alejandro Rose-Garcia (a.k.a. Shakey Graves), And The War Came follows the artist’s 2011 self-released debut album, Roll the Bones, which brought him national acclaim and, three years later, still ranks near the top of Bandcamp’s digital best-seller charts. While his first album was a solo affair, with ShakeyGraves accompanying himself onguitar and a handmade kickdrum fashioned from an old suitcase, And The War Came is a collaborative work.Boosahda brought all of his gear to the artist’s house and converted the space into a big, open studio. While the signature Shakey Graves set-up provided the starting point, other musicians were invited in, including Esmé Patterson.

"The first album was me wanting to burn down my life, cut my hair off, and run screaming into the woods," says Shakey Graves. “This album is about the trials and tribulations of becoming domesticated, letting people into your world and letting go of selfishness-the story of becoming a pair, losing that, and reconciling with the loss and gain of love.”
