ARTIST INFO:
Andra Day: Andra
Day’s voice is as powerful as it is expressive. The San Diego native
and performing arts high school graduate worked with various producers over the years to develop her musical style.
Her break came from a taped recording of a live performance heard by
Stevie Wonder, who contacted her and introduced her to
producer/writer/musician, Adrian Gurvitz. Day and Gurvitz spent the next
year working on her debut album with what she calls a “retro-pop-soul”
sound (“a blend of jazz, soul, doo-wop, plus
a little bit of rock, and hip-hop on the underbelly”). In 2012,
Andra posted a series of covers on YouTube
to gauge public opinion. The pieces went viral and that, combined with
her breathtaking live performances, and landed her a recording deal
with Warner Bros. Records, who will release her debut album this
summer. If the name/voice sound familiar, her song “Coolin’ in the
Streets” was used for Bud Light Lime’s “Switch On Summer” campaign and
she could be seen on national ads for GAP’s “Summer Loves" campaign. The singer wowed audiences at the Sundance screening of “What Happened Ms. Simon?” and she will be participating in this year’s ESSENCE Music Festival in New Orleans.
Big Data: (New Album, 2.0, to be released March 24) Paranoid electronic artist Big Data saw major success in 2014 with his hit single “Dangerous (feat. Joywave),” which claimed the #1 spot on the Alternative chart at Billboard,
has been one of the longest charting songs of 2014,and is preparing to
impact at Top 40 in February. Big Data was named one of Rolling Stone’s “10 Artists You Need to Know” and USA Today’s “On the Verge” artist, with coverage in Wall Street Journal, Entertainment Weekly, and a performance on Late Night with Seth Meyers. Big Data, led by mastermind Alan Wilkis, will release his album 2.0 on March 24, which features guest appearances from Twin Shadow, Rivers Cuomo, White Sea, Kimbra, Jamie Lidell and many more.
Dylan Gardner:
Dylan Gardner is one of a new breed of young artists for whom the
internet is a great education. He has taught himself to be a
multi-instrumentalist, pro-tools engineer, and bedroom producer (though
it’s not your typical bedroom; the closet has been turned into a vocal
booth).Did we mention that Dylan is 18? None of this would matter if
Dylan’s songs weren’t so effortlessly, effervescently extraordinary.
Innocent yet sophisticated, classic but up-to-the-minute, and utterly
comfortable and confident in his own skin, Dylan is a major talent. In
2013, he signed to Big Deal Music Publishing and recorded his debut
album Adventures in Real Time, co-produced with John Dragonetti of the Submarines. It was released on WBR on January 1st. Album Stream: https://soundcloud.com/dylangardnermusic
Funk Volume:
Funk Volume is one of the most successful independent hip-hop record
and production companies in music today. Founded in 2009 with the idea
of protecting the integrity of the artist’s vision, the label is home to
co-founder and artist Hopsin, Dizzy Wright, Jarren Benton, SwizZz and
producers DJ Hoppa and Kato. Several of their artists have graced XXL
magazine’s Freshman Class list as a result of their organic and rabid
following.
Greg Holden: (New album, Chase The Sun, to be released April 14) Scottish-born singer-songwriter Greg Holden will release his major label debut Chase The Sun on April 14 Produced by Greg Wells (Adele, One Republic), featuring new single ”.Hold On Tight” He’s best known for writing the massive Phillip Phillip’s single hit “Home" that sold five million tracks in the U.S. and landed Holden an ASCAP Pop Award. He also released "The Lost Boy", which hit No. 1 on iTunes in Holland, raised over $50,000 for the Red Cross, and was featured in the fifth season of Sons of Anarchy.
GTA: (New EP DTG Vol. 1to be released March 23)
Thirty push-ups and a shot of tequila each: that’s all the preparation
Julio Mejia and Matt Toth need to transform from laid-back, unassuming
24-year-olds into the scene-stealing DJ and production duo, GTA. Despite
GTA’s wild, unpredictable sets, everything the duo does - both on stage
and in the studio - is unified by a simple mission statement: death to
genres. Promoting their genre-free ethos, Toth and Mejia have become
bona fide tastemakers to fans and fellow artists alike, proving that
“dance music” is best defined as whatever makes you move. They finished
their first collaboration in a single sitting, sent it off to a few
labels for feedback and heard directly from Afrojack, who wanted to sign
the song to his Wall Recordings imprint. Since then, the guys have
toured the globe with Rihanna, Calvin Harris and Tiesto, collaborated on
releases with Diplo, A-Trak and Martin Solveig and officially remixed
Kylie Minogue, Iggy Azalea and deadmau5. Now, the guys are prepping a
barrage of new releases as part of a freshly-inked deal with Three Six
Zero Music and Warner Bros. Records.
ILOVEMAKONNEN:Makonnen Sheran, better known as iLoveMakonnen,
is a whimsical self-made rapper, singer, and producer from Atlanta by
way of Los Angeles influenced by the likes of Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy
and Lil B. Unfortunate circumstances - a two-year period in which was
under house arrest following the accidental shooting death of a friend -
made him focus more on music, as well as on blogging and interviewing
artists, which enabled him to hone his craft and network. From 2011
through 2013, Makonnen released several albums and EPs, gradually
building a reputation for his surreal and seemingly lackadaisical
approach to singing and rapping. In 2014, Miley Cyrus boosted his profile by posting an image of the I Love Makonnen EP to Instagram. Later that year, Drake remixed and inserted himself into Makonnen’s "Club Goin’ Up on a Tuesday" which led to a signing with Drake’s OVO Sound label supported by Warner Bros. Records and released officially as “Tuesday”.
The song hit #1 song at urban radio reaching the Top 5 and Top 20 at
rhythmic and Top 40 radio, respectively. The song would later be
nominated in the “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration” category for the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. Makonnen is busy gearing up for his major label debut due this year.
Mystery Skulls: Mystery
Skulls is an electronic dance-oriented neo-soul and vintage
disco-influenced outfit centered around lead singer/songwriter Luis
Dubuc. Formed in Dallas, Texas in 2010, Mystery Skulls grew out of
Dubuc’s previous project the Secret Handshake. In 2011, Dubuc debuted
the first Mystery Skulls album, the five-track EP, which included the
single “Amazing.” In 2012, buoyed by a strong online following, Dubuc
relocated the band to Los Angeles. In 2014, Mystery Skulls released
their full-length debut album, Forever, on Warner Bros. Records which features appearances from Nile Rodgers, Brandy and Snowblood.
Priory: Portland duo Priory
sold everything they had, built a studio in an old cement factory and
crafted their own signature breed of alt-pop. Their anthemic song “Weekend" has been making waves on pop and alternative radio and will appear on their April 2015 Warner Bros. Records debut, Need To Know.
”Weekend” was featured on ESPN’s SportsCenter throughout football
season, and the band can be heard in the latest Taco Bell commercial.
You can catch them on tour this spring with Kaiser Chiefs, and they’ll
be making appearances at SXSW, Bonnaroo and Governor’s Ball.
The Flaming Lips: I think you know who they are…
Twin Shadow, aka George Lewis, Jr., is on a headlining tour behind his third album ‘Eclipse,’ out March 17th. Listen to new single ‘I’m Ready.’
The album was recorded at the historic chapel at Hollywood Forever
Cemetery, one of George’s many sources of inspiration in his new home of
Los Angeles after relocating from New York a few years ago. The
Dominican Republic-born, Florida-bred Lewis adopted the Twin Shadow
moniker in 2006. He has released two previous albums on indie labels
Terrible and 4AD, 2010’s ‘Forget’ and 2012’s ‘Confess.’ Live
performances opening for Florence & the Machine and The Strokes,
appearances at Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Bonnaroo, plus his own
headlining shows have earned George a reputation as a charismatic and
compelling frontman. He has also performed on ‘Letterman,’ ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon’ and ‘Conan’. His track 'Old Love, New Love' featured in ‘Grand Theft Auto V’ was named one of the best songs of 2013 by Rolling Stone.
