Do you and your family plan on traveling this coming 4th of July weekend?  Well, according to a July 25th Independence Day Travel Forecast from AAA, there’s a good chance that you are.  In the report, the authorities at AAA predict that 41.9 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more over the 4th of July holiday.  This number accounts for the largest travel prediction since 2007 and is also up from the 41.6 people that traveled in 2014.

According to Marshall L. Doney, AAA President, “This Independence Day, more people will get in their cars, board airplanes, and take buses, trains and cruise ships to celebrate our nation’s freedom with friends and family.  Students all across the nation are also celebrating freedom from homework, making this an ideal time for a family vacation. Independence Day is typically the busiest summer travel holiday for this reason, and more Americans are planning a holiday getaway than any year since 2007.”

So what’s driving this increase in travel?  The experts at AAA suspect that a strong employment market, rising income, and falling gas prices are to blame.  In fact, as of June 30th, the national average for a gallon of gasoline was at $2.77.  This number is down by 91 cents compared to last year and the lowest average for the date since 2010.

If you are looking for a tool that can help you maneuver your holiday travels, consider downloading the AAA Mobile app for iPhone, iPad, and Android.  This helpful app will assist you in finding current gas prices, make travel arrangements, map a route, and much more.  AAA members can even request roadside assistance via the app.  To get more information on this app, you can visit AAA.com/mobile.
