After just finishing up my Senior state swim meet and going into sectionals, my life lately has been “taperful.” Taper, a glorious time filled with sleeping, eating, and not a whole lot of working hard. My three favorite things. Just kidding.

Being a swimmer, my teammates and I look forward to taper before a swim meet. We work hard all season and finally get to rest so that the results of the meet match the effort we put in over the course of the season. Taper for an Ironman in training, is very inconvenient. All winter I've been building up miles on the run and bike; securing a strong base before spring and summer hit, and my training hours increase once again. The only problem is my taper for my championship swim meets get in the way of training for my Ironman. During taper I'm supposed to rest outside of the pool, not just inside of it. That means cutting back on my running and biking. Finding a balance though is hard, throughout my taper for the swim meet last weekend I tried to stop running and biking three days before the race. This time, with sectionals coming up, I did my last run and bike workouts on Thursday. I don't race until Wednesday in the 800 free relay. The taper worked. This past weekend I swam super fast and have my fingers crossed that my strong swimming continues into this coming week. Needless to say, it’ll be good to get back to training after sectionals!
