Outside of their Custom Line, Ferretti Yachts’ 960 luxury motoryacht has been their largest yet. Honored with the 2014 Motor Boat Award earlier this year in the “Custom Yacht” category, the yacht has been receiving praise and attention from around the world.

Said Alan Harper, Motor Boat & Yachting’s specialist custom yacht contributor, “Ferretti Yachts’ 960 stretches the limits of customer expectations to a whole new level, delivering a genuine superyacht experience without the associated costs, complexities and risks.”

A large recreational yacht with a planing hull, the Ferretti Yachts 960 is both elegant, strong and sporty thanks to the collaboration between Giovanni Zuccon (Studio Zuccon International Project), AYT&D–Advanced Yacht Technology & Design and Centro Stile Ferretti Group. Several design touches set this yacht apart from others in her class, including those that allow the maximum amount of natural light inside the vessel on both the main and lower decks and a raised pilothouse that maximizes interior space on the main deck. In addition, a cleverly arranged garage door aft contains comfortable sunpads which convert into a large chaise lounge for enjoying tremendous sea views. We also like that the swim platform features a mobile section that enables easy motor launching and a lift that can be raised and lowered to accommodate fun dives into the water (and a convenient way back aboard). Furthermore, the garage can be (intentionally) flooded to allow the tender to easily slide into the water without a davit.

The Ferretti 960 is exceedingly liveable and open for customization. In her traditional layout, the master cabin is situated forward on the main deck (a first for Ferretti) and four, equally-sized ensuite guest cabins are below with similarly equal furnishings and fittings. The two forward cabins have sliding beds that can be converted to twin cabins. Three comfortable crew cabins that sleep five with dedicated access to the galley ensure privacy to the owner and guests. Another option is an additional living or entertaining area on the main deck in lieu of the master stateroom on this level.

The Ferretti 960’s main deck aft is spacious and easily accommodates a large C-shaped sofa and dining table that seats up to eight. A glass door leading into the main salon may be electric upon request. Inside, natural oak with walnut stained oak wood décor details complement the ample natural lighting. Two, full-height windows have been placed along the broadsides with option to become sliders with access to the sidedecks. The dining area can seat up to 12. The central lobby features access to a day head, as well as access to the master forward (in the traditional version). A staircase leading belowdecks is situated in the middle of the main deck. The Ernestomeda galley in lacquered wood with white quartz top and service dinette is located portside and forward and boasts three different accessways, ensuring maximum privacy for guests on board.

A cockpit staircase from the pilothouse on the mezzanine level leads to the flybridge deck. Since the tender can be stored in the garage (although davits can be added on this level), the entire deck is freed up for guest enjoyment. A perfectly perched U-shaped sofa sits aft of the port-side pilot station with two separate tables that can be joined together. A fully outfitted wet bar (including icemaker upon request) beckons guests to chill and grill. A retractable hard top offers protection from the elements if desired. The aft sunbathing area can accommodate an optional hot tub and plenty of freestanding chairs and loungers.

Ferretti gives three choices in MTU engines–twin 16V 2000 M84 2218 mhp engines (max speed 27.5 knots, cruising at 24 knots), twin 16V M93 2435 mhp engines (max speed 29 knots, cruising at 25 knots) or twin 16V M94 2,638 mhp engines as installed on hull number one (max speed 31 knots, cruising speed at 27 knots). Ferretti’s ARG (Anti Rolling Gyro) system comes standard, ensuring maximum comfort onboard. Soundproofing throughout protects guests from noise from the galley, engine room, crew areas and adjacent cabins. She meets CE design, so she’s considered a leisure craft with no need for a professional captain.

Earlier this year, Ferretti Group named Alberto Galassi as the new chief executive officer of the Ferretti Group as Ferretti consolidates and relaunches operations that focus on design and construction of a new range of products as well as new business and marketing strategies. They have made bold moves in securing a primary position on the international scene (including the Asian Pacific market) and as ambassadors of the Made in Italy technology and style.
