"Journalism is one of the most competitive fields out there," says the Long Island Weekly, the New York publication that has named the Roy H. Park School at Ithaca College one of its Top Five journalism programs.
"We are very proud to be listed in this," Diane Gayeski, Dean of the Park School and a Professor of Strategic Communications, tells us. Long Island Weekly included IC along with Boston University's College of Communication, Emerson College's multimedia journalism program, Syracuse University's S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications, and the University of Texas at Austin's Moody College of Communication.

"The Ithacan welcomes everyone from freshmen to seniors," says Long Island Weekly of IC's weekly newspaper, run by students, and "ICTV is the school’s notable television station which covers a wide range of topics from hard news to Hollywood gossip."
As we reported, the New York State Associated Press Association named "Ithaca Is Potholes," a winter 2014 ICTV piece on Ithaca's seasonal road complaint, Best News Story in the College Television category at NYSAPA's annual awards banquet in Saratoga Springs. "Our team of producers and reporters work very hard to produce quality news reports that keep the community informed," said Chris Wheatley, manager of TV and Radio Operations at Ithaca College and the advisor for ICTV, WICB, and VIC Radio.
"The Ithacan regularly wins regional and national awards including the Gold Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association and the Best College Newsaper in NYS given by the NY Press Association," as well, says Dean Gayeski.
"We attribute this to our excellence in teaching, our philosophy of starting our students out 'day one' in classes in their majors, and having exceptional co-curricular opportunities for students to hone their professional and leadership skills," says Dean Gayeski. "Our IC-NYC program is growing and we are launching a new series of professionals-in-residence."
The Park School is even adding two new degree programs next year, according to the Dean: "A BFA in Writing for Film, Television and Emeging Media and an MFA in Image-Text."
Dean Gayeski tells us, "As Dean I regularly visit and benchmark other communications schools and our leadership team here works to keep our curriculum and co-curricular activities current and re-invigorated."
