The 5th annual JEGS Summer Door Car Shootout is set to take place at I-57 Dragstrip in Benton, IL on July 17-19. After hosting record crowds in 2014, Summer Door Car Shootout promoters were forced to adopt a pre-entry format for the 2015 event to limit entries and ensure that past participants had the first opportunity to enter. Entry opened for racers who had attended all four previous SDCS events on February 1, and opened to previous entrants based upon number of events entered progressively through the month of May. The event was set to be open for new entrants June 1, but due to overwhelming response that will not happen.

All 225 spots for the 2015 JEGS Summer Door Car Shootout have been filled by previous entrants.  In addition, another 25 alternate positions have also been filled. Should any current entrants decide not to attend, they will receive a 100% refund.  If those current entrants will notify SDCS staff that they cannot make it in advance of the event, alternates will be put in their place (5 entrants have already backed out; putting 5 alternates in, with 20 alternates still waiting).

“To be honest, we’ve been overwhelmed by the support for this event,” stated co-promoter Luke Bogacki. “Last year we literally filled the facility. We couldn’t have held many more race cars and trailers, so we felt like we had to go the pre-entry route. Honestly, we figured it would deter racers, because it’s a minor hassle. But it hasn’t.  Racers love this event, and they’ve once again shown unprecedented support.  Some of that has to do with the event’s history, and the fact that so many manufacturers step up to support the racers at JEGS Summer Door Car Shootout.  And part of it, I’m sure, is the excitement about all of the improvements to the I-57 Dragstrip facility.”

Longtime I-57 Dragstrip owners Scott and Leigh Anne Bailey have partnered with Wes and Sarah Newman in the new I-57 Hollywood Dragstrip. Since the partnership went into effect in late March, the dragstrip has received a massive overhaul including a completely new concrete racing surface, concrete guard rails, extended shut down, a new timing tower, updated timing system, new scoreboards, new lighting, and new asphalt pit roads. The end result is a stunning facility, and a complete facelift from the I-57 Dragstrip of the past.

“We’re all very excited about the upgrades and what has essentially become a new facility,” Scott Bailey explained. “We plan to swing open the gates for the first time in late June, so we’ll have a few weekends under our belt prior to the JEGS Summer Door Car Shootout. I know that the racers are very excited about the new track surface and features, but we do ask for your patience particularly at the SDCS. The pits are still under construction today, so while we’ll have more room than ever, we’ll also have more dust and gravel. By the ’16 SDCS everything will be manicured and perfect; but it’s still a bit of a work in progress right now.”

The gates will open or early-bird parking Tursday afternoon, July 16th.  Friday on-track action will kick-off with the Auto Meter Friday PreGame event, which will boast a $5,000 winner’s purse for the first time in event history. Saturday and Sunday main events, presented by BRODIX Cylinder Heads and Moser Engineering will follow, along with the Saturday night bonus races the SDCS has become known for.  Sunset Performance Racing Engines will present the annual Quick 16 Door Car Shootout, while Ohio Crankshaft will present the popular King of Illinois Hi-Roller Shootout, which features a $500 cash entry and 100% payout (last year’s winner took home a cool $20,000 cash).

Nitroplate will greet competitors with the popular courtesy breakfast cart, another event staple; and Holley Performance will feed everyone Saturday night as part of the traditional Holley Performance Racer’s Appreciation BBQ. For the second consecutive season, Racing RV’s will honor the memory of SDCS supporter and all around good guy Butch Daugherty with the Racing RV’s Butch Daugherty Memorial Ice Cream Social, in which each racer and crew member receives a complimentary Ice Cream.

In addition to the huge and guaranteed cash purses, over $30,000 in awards and “Door” Prizes will be handed out at the 5th annual JEGS Summer Door Car Shootout. These awards come courtesy of Auto Meter, BRODIX, Moser Engineering, 1st Ayd Products, RacerSwag.com, K&N Filters, Mark Sullens E85 Carburetors, Flo-Fast, Milodon, K&R Performance Engineering, APD, BTE, California Car Cover, Crane Cams, I-57 Dragstrip, The Moser Great American Bracket Race, the Mini-Million, Mickey Thompson Tires, JEGS, The Southern Footbrake Challenge, The No Box Nationals, Hoosier Racing Tire, Wiseco, AirTek, FTI, Tinnin Race Suspension, ThisIsBracketRacing.com, CollectorTethers.com, Dedenbear, Jiffy-Tite, Tuffpaw.com, Fastronix, SHARP Stuff, Huntsville Engine, Digital Delay, Coan Racing Transmissions, Dixie Racing Products, Yukon Gear & Axle, 2Boyz Blasting, Accelerated Graphics and Signs, Todd’s Extreme Paint, Renegade Racing Fuels, Manley Performance, J&J Engine Diapers, Quickfuel Technologies, Abruzzi Racing Transmissions, Folk Race Cars, Jesel, Nitrous Express, and more.

As a reminder, the JEGS Summer Door Car Shootout is now PRE-ENTRY ONLY!  Only racers who have pre-entered will be allowed to compete July 17-19; no new entries will be accepted at the race track. As the new I-57 Hollywood Dragstrip continues to expand, promoters hope to increase the size of the JEGS Summer Door Car Shootout in years to come; but the 2015 field is set. Below is the final entry list, along with alternates waiting to secure their spot in “The Biggest Little Door Car Race in the Midwest.”
