ORGANIZED CRAFT/SCHOOL SUPPLIES

Hi friends! I’m Erin from Sunny Side Up and I’m thrilled to be part of such a fun series hosted by Amy and Christy (love those two!). I have to admit that as a former school teacher and someone who loves everything involving organization, back to school organization is one of my favorite topics! My three kids start school next week so I’ve been working hard to get our office/craft room and mudroom organized and ready for a new year!
One thing that has helped me and my kids stay organized during the school year is having a set place for all of our school/art/craft supplies. We recently built a new house and this cupboard in my office was one of the first things I organized after we moved in. I function so much better having all of these supplies corralled and organized in one place!
I rounded up all of our school and art supplies and organized them in clear containers.
Then I labeled everything so it would be a cinch for my kids to put things away where they belong. I even have one container labeled “labels.” Clearly I’m a fan.

I had these colorful magazine files on hand so I labeled them with my kids’ names to organize their coloring and art books. Now when they want to color or paint they know right where all of their activity books are.

Above the containers I have a paper sorter to organize paper.

The top cupboard that my kids can’t reach I use to organize some of my house/design files. You can see more details on this organized space here.

In our previous house I didn’t have an office or space for school supplies (or anything else for that matter!) so I cleaned out this cupboard in our kitchen and created a small craft cupboard for my kids. Smartest thing I did! Whenever there was a school project due or my kids just wanted to color or create something we were ready! Plus supplies stayed organized after the project was finished. It was a win win and much more useful for our family than a cupboard full of pots and pans I rarely used. (I’m a fan of organizing – cooking.. not so much.) Having all of our art/craft/school supplies organized and together in one place makes homework time so much easier. A great way to prepare for the school year!

I recently shared the top 10 things I do towards the end of every summer to get ready for back to school on my blog. I’ve made a good habit of getting ready early so that we aren’t scrambling during that first week of school. Ideas on organizing your home, kids’ closets, the morning routine, the endless amount of paperwork and a few tips on how to manage your own time and have more productive days once class is in session!

Wishing you all a wonderful start to your school year! I’m sending my baby to Kindergarten this year so aside from organizing closets, craft supplies, calendars and our mudroom, I’m also stocking up on plenty of Kleenex!

Thanks for having me over Amy and Christy! xo
