Defense Systems is the brand for knowledge technologies and network-enabled warfare that have transformed the world of defense. We are seeking a talented and ambitious editorial intern to help cover the world of the networked warfighter.
This individual will be an integral part of a highly collaborative newsroom, reporting and researching both spot news and big-picture trends. This is a paid position, 20-30 hours per week, and is available immediately. Both current students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities:
• Cover industry and government events, newsmaker appearances and other spot news
• Monitor and aggregate relevant news from other media outlets
• Gather data and other research for larger stories and data visualization projects
• Monitor daybook and industry calendars to identify relevant events in the defense technology space
• Help conceive and develop story ideas both large and small
• Assist with other editorial projects, including social media efforts, as needed.
Requirements:
• Proven ability to write clearly and accurately on tight deadlines
• Demonstrated knowledge of AP style
• Ability to juggle multiple projects, both large and small
• Solid understanding of digital media, and its role in both gathering and presenting information
• Strong work ethic, intellectual curiosity and commitment to continuous improvement
• Keen interest in, and basic knowledge of, technology and the federal government
• Basic HTML proficiency is helpful; experience with data research and visualization is ideal
