How do you get RSS off sites that need passwords?

Hi there. I have a lot of forums I hang out on that I wish to have the RSS feed in feed reader so I know when new posts are made. But these sites require passwords and usernames,

So how can I access them?

When you press F3 there is no option for passwords.....

Thanks in advance

Well

I guess it depends on the password method, i have one site i access, when i entered the url then feedreader (3.10) simply asks me for the password.
But then that's a *real* web authentication, not just some cookie nonsense, which probably doesn't work.

But you should claim to the sites you can't get into, its one thing they don't allow outsiders to writer, but everybody should be able to read surely.

Use OpenKapow RoboMaker

I have the solution for you, but it requires some work on your side.

OpenKapow edits a software called RoboMaker. It is totally free. You have to build a robot that logs-in to your forum using the login and password you provide as parameters, then you can return the xml file of their RSS feed.

Say your account name in OpenKapow is rsshelperpls, then you can subscribe to your custom feed in Feedreader for forum1, with an URL like this one:

http://service.openkapow.com/rsshelperpls/forum1.rss?login=xxx&password=yyy

Where xxx and yyy are your login information to the forum. You pass them as parameters to the URL.
The actual URL of your forum is inside the robot itself.
Everytime you update the forum1.rss feed, the robot will be executed, login automatically and return you the feed contents.

I subscribed in feedreader to more than 50 custom feeds that I built with RoboMaker, and never had a problem. If you give me the exact URL of your forum RSS feed, I can write a demo robot for you and give you the URL.

Well it is ANY forum that

Well it is ANY forum that has user / password to see the forums. Most of the forums I am talking about is the developer forums for various software I have bought. So you have the public forums and then you have the pain customers only forums.

For example: Chaos Group forums.. I can rss all the public ones but not the private ones.. witch are the good ones. Or the C4 Engine forum... same thing... the public ones work fine but not the private forums.

So basically any forum. Vbullitin, Yabb, SMF, phpbb3 etc etc where you require a login to see the forum itself (not just to post)

I can not find any readers that have this feature... if you think about adding it to your app then you will be the only one. Unless you know a way that it can be done that I do not know about.

Right click the feed> Edit

Right click the feed> Edit Feed> .

You can not do that as you

You can not do that as you can not add the feed ... you press f3... add the url and then as you get bounced to a login page (witch is not a feed) the program errors and dose not add it.. so there is no place or time for you to edit it....

Thanks for the reply.. but that dose not help.

Well, then try adding any

Well, then try adding any feed or if you have one right click that or File> Manage Feeds and change the URI of that feed to the one want.

I've been trying to find a forum where you need username and password to read feeds out of curiosity to try it out myself. Couldn't find one.

I am afraid this is the

I am afraid this is the first thing I tried... it dose not seam to work either.

There has to be a way to do this though I would have thought with all the forums on the net.. a rss reader that can login or store cookies of logging information would be very popular?

Dose anyone know how I am meant to do this?

EDIT -
Oh... i also tried using the internal browser to log into the website in the hope that it would store the login information in a cookie or something and load the rss feed rather than bounce to the longing page and error.

That didn't work.

Have you already tried a different feed reader?

I've tried it with yabb,

I've tried it with yabb, vbulletin, phpbb3 and SMF.... basically any forum that requires a login to see the forum. The rss feed to that forum use the bulletin board login to access it.. though a cookie on your browser with the passwords....

So any forum that requires you to login to see the forum and rss feed for it.

I have also tried 4 opensource feedreaders (but i like this on the best, as it works great for all other rss needs.

I suppose it worked with those.

Hmm I don't know. Couldn't find any feeds that require identification. Must be some paysite or internal network stuff.

I didn't bother to look further; you can't sort searches by date.
