FeedReader not updating feeds - Database full?

I do not have a huge number of feeds, but don't always get around to reading them. I recently found that most of the feeds had not been updated for more than four weeks, with just the odd feed having recent activity.

I cannot see anywhere documented a limit on the number of items that feedreader can have, but I found that by doing a "Clean Up Database" from database information and choosing just a few days for "Clean up Articles older than" I could suddenly get data into many of my feeds which did not update at all when I selected update.

When the feeds did not update I did not get any error messages - just no new messages in the feeds - even though I knew that these feeds were working and had new messages in them.

The database statistics for the database - after the clean up - are:

  • Channels: 33
  • Database size: 42 MB
  • Enclosuers size: 2057 MB
  • News in database: 1934
  • Unread news: 1924
  • Starred news: 0

Any tips on what I'm doing wrong - I feel that there should be an error message if data is available in a feed but feedreader cannot (for whatever reason) add it to the database.

RE: FeedReader not updating feeds - Database full?

I am running FeedReader 3.13 as well. This seems similar to my experience with the 100% cpu bug where it will also stop updating, and cause the cpu usage to go up to 100%. I was experimenting with running with the Firebird 2.0.4 embedded engine but that produced the same 100% cpu bug, and no more updating. My solution was to install a newer version of the Firebird 2.0.3 embedded client than is distributed with Feedreader by following the instructions on http://www.feedreader.com/node/1223

* Channels: 914
* Database size: 1147 MB
* News in database: 414246
* Unread news: 414231
* Starred news: 0
Firebird embedded (fbclient.dll) 2.0.3.12981

you can try to reset the feeds

a batfile containing feedreader.exe /reset

run it with FR closed

I think my problem is different. I don't get the 100% CPU usage that you do. All that happens is that FR goes away and checks all the feeds but doesn't update anything. This is despite me having a couple of feeds from the main news pages of the BBC which update several times a day. If I manually update all the feeds FR goes through them all in a few seconds and comes back to say they have been updated but, again, there are no new messages in the feed.

FR is acting as if the database is somehow full - although it is nowhere near any of Firebird's limits. As soon as some headers are removed the update seems to find some extra room for new ones.

The problem seems to be the same as the one reported in
http://www.feedreader.com/node/1623
and
http://www.feedreader.com/node/1634

Anyone from Feedreader like to comment? I did backup the problematic database, but I haven't tried to reload it and see if it still causes problems. I will try over the next few days and report back.

Greetings, there are

Greetings,

there are limitations, but it involves many gigabytes of data. If have a feeling, that FR update engine can't make connection to those feeds.
Have you checked Tools->Options-> Application properties - Connection tab Test Internet Connection.

We had many cases, after updating FR, Firewall rejected connections, becouse application has changed. Or proxy params are changed.

How big is FR database file ?
