Feedreader 3.10 does not properly update number of files for a feed

I have my Feedreader articles in groups. Some groups have some of the same articles as other groups. The number of articles within a group show a number in brackets, eg. "this-feed (3521)". So I might have the following:
This-Group (65912)
this-feed (3521)
another-feed (4512)
etc.
The Group folder properly adds up the correct number for each of the feed articles in the group. HOWEVER, the feeds do not show the correct number for all the articles associated with the feed. So therefore the number of articles in the group is wrong. Even if I remove all the articles for all the feeds within a group (folder) the number of articles remains the same and only grows larger for every update. Therefore, neither the group folder nor the feed show the correct number of articles for the group or for the feed even though the group folder correctly adds up the number (but not the true quantity) of the articles. I can find no work around to restart the feed article number to zero nor to set the group number to zero. The feed article count for both the group folders as well as the feeds work in a purely cumulative fashion and appears not able to roll backwards when files are removed.

Also, when I turn the database packsage loose on this situation it does not correct this problem. When the database routine attempts to reduce the number of article counts for each feed it takes forever (days) and when it finishes the counts remain as before. It does not look like the database routine when doing clean up operations actually removes articles but it may be removing articles but not properly adjusting the article counts which continue upwards never rolling backwards as articles are removed. But I think all the articles that should have been removed have not been removed. Perhaps if the same feed did not appear in several group folders there would be no problem but this cumulative counting seems to continue even for unique feeds. I also get problems when trying to remove feeds that show up as not used. The system hangs up -- not always -- but often.

I am using XP.
